Synthetic biology expertise will unlock new opportunities for scaling HydRegen technologies
Oxford, UK – HydRegen is pleased to welcome Mark Eldridge to the team as Synthetic Biologist, strengthening the company’s biological capabilities as it continues to scale its biocatalytic technologies.
In his new role, Mark will work closely with HydRegen’s fermentation team to improve the microbial strains used to produce the company’s enzymes. His work will connect genetic and plasmid engineering with fermentation data, helping the team understand strain performance, troubleshoot production challenges and further improve enzyme titres.
Mark brings a thoughtful, evidence-led approach to synthetic biology. During the recruitment process, he demonstrated a strong interest in genetic stability, experimental design and effective design-build-test-learn cycles. He also highlighted the importance of robust assays, appropriate controls and reproducible data when making decisions about strain development.
The appointment comes as HydRegen continues to invest in the multidisciplinary capabilities needed to take its technology from laboratory development towards manufacturing. By combining molecular biology, fermentation, chemistry, analytics and engineering, the company is building a deeper understanding of its entire catalyst production and application process.
“Our ability to produce enzymes reliably, efficiently and at scale is fundamental to HydRegen’s commercial progress. The journey from genetic design to manufacturing-scale production takes collaboration, creativity and scientific excellence. We’re excited to welcome Mark to our team, where he’ll help drive strain engineering and genetic stability, while collaborating across the team to further improve the scale-up efforts that transform great ideas into real-world impact.”
Rhiannon Evans, Head of Biology and Enzyme Production, HydRegen
Commenting on his appointment, Mark Eldridge said:
“I’m excited to join HydRegen at such an important stage in the company’s development. The opportunity to combine molecular biology with fermentation data and process insight was particularly compelling. I’m looking forward to working across the team to develop robust, high-performing strains and help translate innovative science into scalable enzyme production.”
Mark Eldridge, Synthetic Biologist, HydRegen
Mark’s appointment further strengthens HydRegen’s biological capabilities and its ability to connect genetic design with reliable, scalable enzyme production. This will support the company’s continued progress towards commercially relevant manufacturing processes for its biocatalytic technologies.
We are delighted to welcome Mark Eldridge to HydRegen and look forward to the contribution he will make to the company’s next stage of growth.
